Bulgarian Training Bag by Ivan Ivanov

The first Bulgarian Training Bag Ivan Ivanov created was in the summer of 2005, in his home country of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Training Bag was created, based on his successful career for many years as a world class athlete and seeing a lack of practical equipment. Ivan saw the great need for a deeper commitment to more powerful and functional training equipment and protocols that incorporated the total body movements and agilities required to be successful in wrestling.

Bulgarian Training Bag Evolution

In Bulgaria, holding live stock animals on the shoulders is a traditional position in the Bulgarian Folk-Style wrestling festivals. The winners very often are awarded with lambs, sheep, rams or even baby calf’s.  Ivan developed the Bulgarian Training Bag around this concept and improved it by adding straps, and on the more expensive Suples bags the ability to adjust the weight.

Bulgarian Training Bag Overview

The bags come in 4 different models including the Suples Strong, Genuine Leather, Synthetic Leather and Cavas.  The Suples Strong and Genuine Leather Bulgarian bags come with a 2 year warranty.  The Synthetic Leather and Cavas bags come with a 1 year warranty.

The Suples Strong is the only bag in the lineup that allows the user to adjust the weight.  It comes in small 11 lbs – 17 lbs or Medium – 26 lbs – 37 lbs.  For most women and many men, the small is probably ideal to workout with.  For those who are looking to really bulk up, the medium might be a better choice.

The other bags come in

• X-Small – 11 lbs For Athletes 60-100 lbs
• Small – 17 lbs For Athletes 101-150 lbs
• Medium – 26 lbs For Athletes 151-190 lbs
• Large – 37 lbs For Athletes 191-285 lbs
• X-Large – 37 lbs For Athletes 191-285 lbs (Only Available In The Leather Bag)

Cost might be a factor for many.  The least expensive bag, which is the cavas bag, costs $104.95 for a x-small.  As you go up in weight/size the bags get progressively more expensive.

Bulgarian Training Bag Competition

The Bulgarian Bags while unique do have some competition including medicine balls (Dynamax and Rage), kettlebells and Sandbags (Ultimate and Brute Force) and can certainly be used in conjunction with all 3 for one heck of a workout.
