Looking to get in the best shape of your life?  Well you might want to check out these top 8 fitness programs.

Bikram YogaBikram Yoga

If you like to hold a Yoga pose for an extended period of time, If you want to sweat like crazy holding that pose, than Bikram Yoga is your calling. Bikram Yoga consists of  holding 26 poses in a 107-degree heated room for an hour and a half.  Many Yoga studios will promote what they call “Hot Yoga”, but in reality it is just yoga in a hot room and not Bikram.   Certain poses require more flexibility, balance and strength.  As your flexibility, strength and balance grows you’re able to hold the poses longer and you’re able to attempt more advanced positions.

Bikram practitioners claim that the hot room allows the body to cleans and detoxify.  Bikram studios will often do what they call the “30 day challenge”.  People sign up for these challenges tying to complete 30 straight days of Bikram Yoga.

Time Allocation:  From my experience Bikram requires a significant chunk of time.  Plan on about 2.5-3 hours.  15-30 minutes to get to the studio and change, 1.5 hours to workout and 45 minutes to shower, cool down get to work or go home.

BodyRock.TV was originally started by Zuzana and Freddie Light.  If you ever wanted to have that very lean look that says “Are you from Europe?”, call yourself a “Body Rocker”, workout from home and have a hardcore video workout that lasts between 12-20 minutes, then BodyRock.TV is for you.

To get the most out of your BodyRocken experience, you will want to purchase a few things including a Sandbag, Ugi Ball, Dip Bar and Jump Rope.

Time Allocation: BodyRock.TV videos are between 12-20 minutes and can be performed at home.  If time or travel is an issue, BodyRock.TV might be the perfect solution.

You’ve probably have heard about the CrossFit craze from some of your friends.  Crossfit means serious no joke no mess around workouts.  Crossfitters like to push their limits using old school equipment in warehouses known as the box and outdoors.  If you’re into waking up at 5am, like to use climbing ropes, gymnastic rings, and lots and lots of weights, you’re going to love Crossfit.  The workouts are really intense combining both speed and power.  You will learn to have a love-hate relationship with workouts named after people.

Crossfitters have their own vocabulary, which can sometimes come off rather funny when you hear “Annie didn’t have a chance today” or “I just crushed Cindy”  These of course refer to workouts named after females (“The Nasty Girls” of CrossFit) and are often Benchmark CrossFit Workouts.

To get the most out of Crossfit, you will need to be dedicated and show up.  If you stick with the program, you will see massive changes in your body and fitness level.  Unlike at home workouts, people who do Crossfit will develop a strong bond with those who workout with them.  Getting down and dirty in a gym with other like minded people will do that to you.

As a CFer you will probably hear about the Paleo diet, the Stone Age diet that many in the CrossFit community promote.

Time Allocation: Crossfit workouts usually last between 40 minutes to 1 hour and consist of about 15 minute warmup, 10 minutes of instructors going over the moves, 15-30 minutes of hardcore CF workout routines and 15 minutes of cool-down.  Factoring in compute time to the box and you’re looking at about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Beachbody dubs Insanity as “hardest fitness program ever put on DVD” and for many that might actually be true.  Shaun T delivers and will push you past your limits with 10 INSANITY workout discs.  If you like to run and drop, your going to love Insanity.  This this kind of workout isn’t for everyone.  There are a lot of plyometric moves than can put a hurting on your joints if not done correctly.

Insanity workouts use what Shawn T refers to as MAX Interval Training.  You perform long bursts of maximum-intensity exercises with short periods of rest. The program is designed last for 60 days.

Time Allocation: Insanity workouts usually last between 30-45 minutes of really fast passed moves and plyometrics.

Tony Horton P90XWhat can I say, program founder Tony Horton is the bomb.  This guy is strong, flexible and can put on a great workout.  P90X is an at home workout that lasts between 40-130 minutes depending on the day.

P90X is a revolutionary system that broke away from the normal at home fitness video systems.  The workouts are tough and can change your life.   The system comes with 12-DVDs, a 3-Phase Nutrition Plan, a detailed Fitness Guide, a P90X Calendar and tracking worksheets, and 24/7 online support. No gyms or fancy sports equipment is required. All you need is a small space (about 6 by 6 feet), a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, a pull-up bar, and about an hour a day.

They have workouts with names like Ab Ripper, which will make even the toughest man cry.  Expect to sweat through 60- to 90-minute workouts six days a week.  The program is designed to last for 90 days.  If you stick with it, you will see amazing results in the last month.

After you have completed the 90 days, be sure to check out P90X+ and P90x2

Time Allocation: P90X workouts usually last between 60-90 minutes.
